What is a condom?
Condoms are thin latex or polyurethane sheaths which are used on the penis or vagina (female condom) during the intercourse to prevent pregnancy and reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases.
Latex condoms are the best, if not allergic, because they are more reliable and more readily available. Latex condoms can be used with water-based lubricants, but not petroleum-based products as Vaseline, as this will break down latex. A small number of people are allergic to latex can use polyurethane.
Polyurethane condoms are made from a type of plastic. They are thinner and allow for greater sensation and appearance. They are more expensive and less flexible than some may require more than lubricant. Both oil and water based lubricant can be used with polyurethane condoms.
Spermicides and Nonoxynol-9
Condoms and lubricants sometimes contain a spermicide called nonoxynol 9. There are risks associated with Nonoxynol 9 such as an allergic reaction that can cause irritation if used several times a day. If this happens, should be discontinued as skin irritations may increase the risk of HIV or STD transmission.
What are the advantages of using condoms?
Condoms are the only contraceptive that help prevent pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases when used correctly and consistently. Condoms have none medical side effects of many methods of birth control. Condoms are available in various shapes, colors, textures and sizes. Variations in the shape and layout are designed to meet different personal preferences to enhance love making pleasure. Condoms are available at drug stores convenience stores and even vending machines. Condoms are safe, affordable and easy to use. Like all forms of birth control when Used correctly, condoms can be very effective and have side effects if not allergic to latex.
Disadvantages of using condoms.
The drawbacks are very few in comparison with other forms of birth control. Some people think that the condom dulls sensation. Others believe that sexual arousal is diminished when making love should be stopped to put on a condom. However, many are able to overcome this handicap and learn to incorporate the use of condoms as part of games sex. And most say they have better sex because they are able to focus on the enjoyment without worrying about unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.
How to use a condom.
You need to use a condom every time you have sex. Never use the same condom twice. Each kit includes detailed instructions condom. Be sure to read, understand and follow the instructions before using the condom. Check the expiration date and do not use if it is expired.
The condom put on before touching the penis to anywhere in the body members. Practice makes perfect. It is best if both partners know how to place and use a condom. This will make the condom easier and more enjoyable, and effective condom use.
Open condom package carefully to avoid ripping or tearing. Always check to make sure the condom seems to be in good condition. Condoms can deteriorate if not stored properly. If a condom feels sticky or very dry, should not be used.
Condoms should be rolled on the tip of an erect penis. If the condom does not have a reservoir top, pinch the tip of the condom to leave a little space to collect semen. Pull the penis before softening by holding the condom against the base of the penis to avoid spilling the semen. Discard the condom and not reuse.
What if the condom breaks?
Sometimes condoms break. If you are aware that the condom has broken during intercourse, remove immediately and replace it with a new one. If the condom breaks and semen has leaked out, wash the semen out of the vulva or penis with soap and water. If the condom is broken and semen has entered the vagina, emergency contraception and the morning after pill can prevent pregnancy up to 5 days after unprotected sex.
Condoms protect against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Do not be shy about protecting the one you love!
